MLA 2020 CFPs

We are excited to announce the following WCML and joint session CFPs for MLA 2020 in Seattle, WA.

All of the following roundtables ask for a 250-word proposal, a two-page c.v., and have a deadline of 3/15/19, with proposals to be sent in a single file to the session organizers. Roundtables do not require presentation titles and are limited to 10-12 minutes per presenter (depending upon number of presenters) in order to encourage general discussion. Longer descriptions will follow soon, but please distribute both the short CFPs and the longer ones widely, and send in a proposal yourself!  

1)  Balancing Acts:  Academia’s Gendered Cost of Living

Description:  This roundtable asks about the costs, financial and psychological, of seeking degrees, pursuing jobs, maintaining community, supporting family.  How do you decide the bottom line you can afford?

2)  All Too Human:  Gender and Aging in Academic Workforces

Co-sponsored with Age Studies Transdisciplinary Connections Forum

Description:  This collaborative roundtable examines age/gender in academic life stages from the temporal Neverland of graduate studies/contingent labor through retirement’s Promised Land, which can be either unenterable or utopian.

3)  Being Online: Risks and Rewards for Women in Academe

Description:  Gift or poison? Source of solidarity or star system? Means of collaboration or more uncounted work? Guaranteed roundtable on how social media counters and/or reinforces institutional inequities.
